UK universities group releases report on enrolment trends

Universities UK has released a detailed report--Patterns and trends in UK higher education--that provides some valuable insights into domestic and international enrolment in the UK. Among the findings:

  • UK higher education institutions together educate some 2.5 million students annually. The last 10 years has seen significant expansion, with a 28 percent increase in student enrolment.
  • Since 2000/01, the number of international students from outside the EU has more than doubled, with an increase of 11.7 percent in the last year alone.
  • At the same time, a record 125,000 European Union students were enrolled in UK higher education institutions last year – an increase of roughly a third from 2000/01.
