A British education please, but not necessarily in Britain
According to the UK's Higher Education Statistics Agency, the number of people studying overseas for a complete British higher education qualification increased by a significant 23 percent in 2011. According to the agency’s statistics, one-sixth of all students taking UK degrees are now doing so outside of the country. The Times Higher Education’s John Morgan cites greater affordability and less stringent visa requirements among likely reasons for the sharp uptick in enrolments in overseas British programmes (also known as “transnational education” or TNE). Joanna Newman, director of the UK Higher Education International Unit, told the Times Higher Education that key to this popular transnational trend is British institutions’ maintaining the same high standards overseas as they would in the UK.
